KUALA LUMPUR (Friday): Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi took his oath of office as the fifth Prime Minister of Malaysia at the Istana Negara here today.

He took his oath in the presence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail at a ceremony at the Balai Rong Seri just after 3pm.
Abdullah then signed the instrument of office as the fifth Prime Minister of Malaysia, witnessed by Chief Justice Tan Sri Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Samsudin Osman.
Also present was the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid.
A second ceremony followed, which was the conferment of the country's highest title of Tun to Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamed and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali for their outstanding contributions to the nation and its people.
Among the dignitaries present at the Balai Rong Seri, included Cabinet ministers, Mentris Besar, Dewan Rakyat Speaker and Dewan Negara President, the Attorney-General, Defence Forces chief, the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief Secretary to the Government, secretaries-general and heads of departments.
