The Ganesh procession in Paris (more photos)

The huge Hindu community in Paris, concentrated in La Chapelle-Gare du Nord areas, celebrate the birthday of the Hindu God Lord Ganesha in August every year in a big way. These photos were taken during the road procession in Paris along rue Marx Dormoy. The Sri Manicka Vinayakar Alayam Temple, where the religious ceremony is held before the procession, is not too far from here (it's at 17, rue Pajol). The procession, which usually starts from the end of Faubourg St. Denis near the La Chapelle underground station, then goes down Rue Marx Dormoy. The highlight of the procession is an elephant as Lord Ganesha (also spelt Ganesh) is symbolized by an elephant's head.
