PUTRAJAYA, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- All 16 million MyKad holders and applicants before Nov 30 will have the chance to win a Perodua Myvi worth RM50,000.
They will also have the opportunity to walk away with a host of prizes worth RM300,000 in three lucky draws beginning next month.
Announcing this Wednesday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid said the government proposed to conduct the lucky draws to spur two million Malaysians who have yet to have MyKads to apply now and not wait until the last minute.
"If they apply for MyKads next year, they will have to pay a sum," he told reporters after his ministry's post-cabinet meeting.
Azmi said the lucky draws would be conducted at the end of next month, October and November, offering 80 prizes worth RM100,000 each month.
The draw for the top prize, a Perodua Myvi, would be held at the end of November, he said.
Prizes up for grabs at all lucky draws include Suzuki 150cc scooters worth RM6,500 each, 29-inch televisions, digital cameras, personal computers and mobile phones.
Azmi said the lucky draws would be conducted digitally and the prizes would be sent to the winners according to their address on the MyKad.
The lucky draws would not cost the government as the prizes were sponsored by a consortium of companies that supplied MyKads' hardware and software, he said.
Azmi said the lucky draws were aimed at encouraging the people to apply for MyKads early and to avert congestion at the registration counters when people came to apply for MyKads at the last minute.
The ministry had placed newspaper advertisements on registration counters that were not packed to encourage the people to go there, he added.
