KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- The government has declared Monday, Oct 23 a holiday for the public sector in conjunction with the twin Deepavali and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
According to a statement by the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, the matter was agreed by the Cabinet Wednesday.
He said that the Public Service Department (PSD) would issue a circular on it to all government departments and agencies shortly.
Deepavali is on Oct 21 while Hari Raya Aidilfitri is expected to be celebrated on Oct 24 and 25.
In KUALA TERENGGANU, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh announced that Oct 26 would be a holiday in the state in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebration.
He said that the decision was taken as Oct 26, being a Thursday, fell between the Hari Raya Aidilfitri public holidays expected to be on Oct 24 (Tuesday) and Oct 25 (Wednesday) and Oct 27 and 28 which fell in Friday and Saturday, the rest days in the state.
"This is to avoid problems for the people of Terengganu and so that they can have a longer festive break with their families," he told reporters after chairing the weekly State Exco meeting at Wisma Darul Iman, here Tuesday.
However, Idris declined to say whether the holiday would have to be replaced with a working day on another rest day.
