4,000 Foreigners To Shop In Penang Every Monday

PENANG, April 12 (Bernama) -- Some 4,000 foreigners are expected to shop on the island every Monday when the Singapore-registered luxury liner Star Cruise makes its weekly stopover here.
State Tourism, Arts and Culture Teng Chang Yeow said the ship would stop for eight hours at Swettenham Pier here on its cruise to Phuket, Thailand.
He said the tourists and crew members can take a specially-chartered bus to tour the island or take trishaw rides around the city centre during this short trip.
The state government had also requested travel agents to ferry the foreigners to the shopping district in Lebuh Campbell and Penang Bazaar, he said.
Teng said the liner would make stopovers at Penang every Monday from today until 2005.
