Monsoon Floods In Terengganu Force
753 To Vacate Houses
DUNGUN, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Monsoon floods in Terengganu have forced 697 people in Hulu Dungun and 56 in Besut to vacate their houses.
The people from Kampung Pasir Raja, Ulu Dungun, were evacuated when floods reached their houses Tuesday evening and the residents of Kampung La, Hulu Besut, had to leave when the Sungai Besut overflowed its banks and threatened their houses around midnight Tuesday night.
Dungun OCPD, Supt Abdul Ghaffar Rejab said the people were now staying in schools, community halls or with relatives.
The Kampung Tanglong-Jerangau road, Jerangau-Kuala Jengai road, Tepus-Pasir Raja road and the Tok Kah-Kampung Lintang road were closed to traffic.
Supt Ghaffar said the Sungai Dungun Raja and the Sungai Kuala Jengai were flowing above the danger level as they were being fed by heavy rain upstream.
Besut OCPD Supt Mahsuri Zainal said the people in the flood-affected areas in Hulu Besut were evacuated with the help of the police, Rela members and the military.
Kampung Development and Security Committee members and Civil Defence personnel also helped in the evacuation exercise, he said.
Supt Mahsuri said 35 people from Hulu Besut were moved to the Kampung La Mosque at about 3am.
