Ex-beauty Queen, Sri Lanka's New High
Commissioner To Putrajaya

From Feizal Samath

COLOMBO, May 18 (Bernama) -- Rosy Senanayake, a former beauty queen, assumes duties tomorrow as Sri Lanka's new High Commissioner in Malaysia, the Sunday Island newspaper reported.
It said Senanayake is a member of the decision-making Working Committee of the ruling United National Party of Sri Lanka.
She is the first Sri Lankan to win a world title when she was picked "Mrs World" more than 10 years ago and she is also the first Sri Lankan beauty queen to head a Sri Lankan diplomatic mission.
Senanayake is an active ruling party member particularly of the party's women's wing.
The paper said for over 20 years, a career diplomat has not had the opportunity to head the mission in Malaysia, seen as an important post due to its growing economic influence in Asia.
Senanayake succeeds former Finance Ministry official D.Liyanage, who did a fine job to cement ties between the countries and promote investments from Malaysia, the paper said. -- BERNAMA
